These are smooth (not "wood grain") work great on my 1985.5 944

Redundant components
Parts like this should be sold in a variety of formats. For instance in this case, the cast body and and components as distinct from the lock ... who wants different keys on either side of their car? Most people, as with the previous reviewer, I suspect but have no supporting data, swap the locking mechanism and don't use the new one. Others will source from VW because it is cheaper. If The body and related parts was sold separately it would be considerably cheaper and hence make inroads into the VW market. I am now off to source from VW. Regards

Works well, no Porsche branding :(
This is a pretty good replacement for the original door handle on my '87 944 turbo. I did the replacement job myself. You could probably replace it without taking the door apart, but I did anyway while I was in the process of figuring out which part was broken. The only sad part is that I payed Porsche parts prices, but the Porsche branding on the world-facing side of the original handle was non-existent on the replacement handle. Rumor has it that some volkswagens and Audis the same or very similar parts (though different lock mechanisms) for their door handles from that era. I ended up transferring the key pins from my old lock cylinder to the new lock cylinder so I could use my original key. The old cylinder fit in the new part, but it was all worn out and gross compared to the new cylinder.
