I still have the original seal on my 76 914 and this seal is reinforced by a metal scallop kind of a picket fence type stiffener that goes up and over the steel flange it makes for a very stiff upper seal, on the new seal you only have a small wire running on top of the steel flange since I have not put this on yet I do not know how it's going to work in my car which is now Chevy V8 powered with radiator behind front bumper inside the hood the last thing I need is for the hot air to both get to the gas tank and the back of the instrument panel which will radiate heat into the cabin, I'm really hoping that this is not the case
