Removing Your BMW Front Bumper

In this article, I'll go over the steps involved with removing the front bumper cover. Removing it is required to service the A/C condenser, headlight assembly, horns, and headlight washers. The headlight washers may be the biggest concern behind the bumper as they frequently leak.

Raise front of vehicle and support safely using jack stands. See our tech article on Jacking up your vehicle.

Remove front section of wheel well liner. See our tech article on wheel well liner removing.


Models with headlight washers: Next, remove the headlight washers.

Models with headlight washers: Next, remove the headlight washers. To do this, use a plastic prying tool and lever washer out.


Models with headlight washers: Then grab and pull straight out of headlight, then use a small flathead screwdriver to detach locking clips and remove.

Models with headlight washers: Then grab and pull straight out of headlight, then use a small flathead screwdriver to detach locking clips and remove. When nozzle is pulled out a small squirt of washer fluid is ejected, stay out of way of spray.

Working at top of front bumper, remove 4 T30 Torx fasteners (green arrows).

Working under vehicle, remove seven 8mm fasteners.

Working in wheel well, remove two 8mm fasteners.

Working in top of wheel well, pull back wheel well liner to expose two 8mm fasteners.

With all fasteners removed from front bumper, pull front corners away from headlights to detach.

Then slide bumper out enough to access electrical connectors for horn, fog lights, ambient temperature sensor, and headlight washer hoses, disconnect applicable items.

Then slide bumper out enough to access electrical connectors for horn, fog lights, ambient temperature sensor, and headlight washer hoses, disconnect applicable items. (yellow arrow) Next, with help from a friend, slide bumper off support and remove. When removing, be careful not to scratch bumper cover or snag any previously disconnected items To install front bumper, start by partially installing bumper while leaving enough space to access electrical connectors and hoses. Reconnect disconnected items. Then slide bumper cover and align. Install all remove fasteners and check alignment of bumper to body.

stan Comments: So 328i and 335i are the same regardless if theres an intercooler right? And fog lights are all the same even if its an msport or a non msport?
