Freeze Plugs |
| The mighty force of water can crack engine blocks in freezing conditions. Freeze plugs are used to safeguard your BMW's cooling system in freezing weather. The freeze plugs are small copper plugs that are designed to pop out of the bottom of the engine block when water freezes in the cooling passages, preventing the block from cracking. In order to prevent this, always use the correct mixture of anti-freeze to water as specified in your BMW's owner's manual, and make sure your freeze plugs are seated correctly in the block. |

Coolant Expansion Tanks |
| The coolant expansion tank provides an buffer for the coolant to 'overflow' to when the cooling system is running. Replace yours with a new one if it is cracked or if there is corrosion inside. |
