Thanks for the help.  Unfortunately, it is not easy to discern which plug the number on the diagram is associated with.  (at least not for someone as mechanically impaired as myself)  So, I took your suggestion and simply disconnected both taillight housings and worked through the different options.  They now work fine.  If you ever run across another helpless imp this is what it came out like.

Thanks for the help with the radio search.  I never did find an original so I supplemented with a nice contemporary Pioneer model.  It was interesting to note that most stereo folks recommended putting 5 1/4" speakers in the doors.  I opted not to cut up the car and found that 4x6 speakers worked well in the existing Porsche speaker housings.

Love your catalog and have given your website to a number of friends.   I'm currently working on a list of other things to fix/replace.
