FigureFigure 1:
Rear Trunk Supported by Gas Shock Assembly
Question: My trunk springs are old or broken.  Is there an alternative to using the sometimes dangerous spring loaded trunk mechanism?

Answer:

There is an aftermarket kit that we will be offering that replaces the trunk spring with gas-assisted shocks.  I've installed them on my car, and it makes a big difference. I was forced to get rid of my trunk springs because my '74 911S motor with CIS fuel injection occupies the space formerly reserved for the springs.  In Figure 1, you can see the gas assisted shock supporting the trunk.
The kit is bolt-on and requires no welding.  About two and a half hours are required to install, with only a drill required.
