Pelican Parts: 914 Questions & Answers...

Question: I have an engine case that I think is an early 914-6 case.  How can I tell the difference between this and a 911 case?

Answer:

The 914-6 case had different serial numbers on them indicating that they were 914-6 cases.  Referring to our chassis information sheet, you can see that all 914-6 cases begin with the numbers 640.  Additionally, the 914-6 case had its serial number in a different location than on the 911.  This location is back by the oil breather housing located on top of the case.  911 motors have their serial number stamped on the front right side of the fan support, near the chain tensioner housings.   You would never be able to see the number too clearly if the 911 motor were installed in a 914-6.
